HMH-772, normally based out of NAS JRB Willow Grove, in Willow Grove, Pennsylvania was activated at the beginning of 2002 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. They are currently attached to HMM-263 at Marine Corps Air Station New River, in North Carolina.

As part of HMM-263 the squadron is working with the 24th MEU (Marine Expeditionary Unit). The following link shows photos from their training activities in May, 2002.
24th MEU


In July, they were out on the USS Nassau (LHA 4), a Tarawa class Amphibious Assault Ship. Here they began preparations and training for an August deployment to points unknown. As part of this deployment, the squadron will also be operating from the USS Austin (LPD 4), an Austin class Amphibious Transport Dock. On August 27, 2002, members of HMH-772 joined forces with members of HMM-263 and deployed with the 24th MEU to the Mediterranean Sea and beyond. Click here for pictures while at sea. In October, 2002, while in the Kosovo area, the units have taken part in a Cultural Retreat. Visits to the Gracanica Monastery and the Kosovo Polje Monument were made during this retreat.

October 13, 2002 marked the start of the last week in Kosovo for HMH-772 and the rest of the 24th MEU. Here are some photos from that week.

During the week of October 21, 2002 the USS Austin and USS Nassau embarked on a journey though the Suez Canal. Their final destination is still unknown. Here are some photos from and of the ships as they pass through the Suez.

During the week of November 01, 2002 772, along with members of the 24th MEU on the USS Austin and USS Nassau prepare to deploy to land in Djibouti, on the Eastern coast of Africa. Here are some photos during those preparations.

From November 27th to December 9, 2002, members of HMM-263, as part of the 24th MEUdeploy to Lamu, Kenya on the African Continent, for training excercises. Here are some photos taken during that time.

Prior to being activated, HMH-772 most recently was involved in providing military support for the new movie, "Sum of All Fears", starring Ben Affleck and Morgan Freeman. The movie opened May 31, 2002.
